Attempted Theft

At 10 pm two young black males attempted to steal a Vespa scooter from a parking space by hot wiring it. They ran away when they realized they were being observed. Off-duty police officer Rob Owens took the police report.

800 block of Third St SW
At approximately 1:30 p.m., a CPIV resident was knocked down in front of her courtyard unit near the fence between CPIV and the rear yard at 201 Eye Street SW, punched, and robbed at gunpoint of her pocketbook, by a male teen-aged attacker wearing dark trousers, a hooded black jacket and a black ski mask. The resident believed that the young man may have followed her for some time before accosting her. As a result of quick action by her housemate and others, the robber eventually discarded the pocketbook while fleeing on foot, and it was recovered, intact. The perpetrator fled in the general direction of the Greenleaf Gardens and James Creek Housing Developments (reported directly to CPIV).

At approximately 1:50 a.m., a female and male pedestrian were approached by two males after they left a parking area. One of the two males attempted to grab a bag from the female, and the male pedestrian was struck on the head. When a witness shouted for help, the assailants fled (reported via Washington Post).

At approximately 10:30 p.m. a man was beaten and robbed in the parking lot near the highway on the north end of CPIV property. The assailants were two black males, sixteen to eighteen years old.

Sometime between midnight and 7am all four wheels/rims were stolen off a black Yukon GMC parked in the N.W. Lot directly in front of 271 G near the freeway. Car was left on blocks. During the same time period, another owner on the 100 block of G Street reported that his car alarm went off at 4am.

At 3:15 am off-duty police officer Owens disrupted a thief who was working at stealing all four wheels/rims off a Toyota parked in N.W. lot close to freeway. The thief saw the police first from a distance and ran. Owner of car had to re-install lug nuts on all wheels/rims.

Shortly after midnight, off-duty police officer Downs escorted an unruly group of teenage boys off the property. Approximately five minutes later a woman was punched and robbed in front of 355 I St. (new apartment building located at 4th & I) Police suspect the group escorted out of CPIV committed the I St. robbery.

At 8:40pm a CPIV resident was assaulted by 2 young males. One of the youths displayed a handgun and demanded money. When the resident replied that she had no money, the other youth punched her in the face, and then both youths ran away.

At 8:00am our site manager found a bicycle and pistol hidden behind a hedge row along the fence. Another bike was found nearby. Police suspect the bikes were abandoned by robbers being pursued by them the night before.

Home/Office Break-In
The CPIV onsite office at 741 Delaware Ave SW was broken into early Monday morning by someone who shattered a sliding glass door. Several items were stolen.
